Taking hostages has a long history as a method of securing concessions from individuals,organisations and governments. More recently, it has become a popular tactic amongst terrorist / criminal organisations and with the ever expanding business interests of global companies and agencies the risks are becoming ever greater.

Whilst personal security services and comprehensive risk assessments undoubtedly have value experience has shown that often this is not enough and it is important for the ‘at risk’ individual to be able to make their own assessments and judgements and if the worst happens manage their own outcomes.

Erebus is a company whose members have been involved in this most challenging and disturbing of occurrences for many years and whose backgrounds stem from the Special Forces and Security communities, we realise that training is critical and that this training can have a major effect on behaviour and perception allowing risks to be reduced and awareness raised.

If the worst happens, through understanding of the mindset and behaviour of the hostage taker and by utilising mitigation techniques, improvements in the hostage’s situation and eventual outcome can be dramatically improved. This training is not a remedy or solution to this ever growing threat but it is a way for organisations and companies to prepare their staff and improve their chances of avoidance and survival.

We understand that this risk, whilst ever present, is minimal in most circumstances and we truly hope it never happens, however can you take the risk?

Each and every course that we produce is unique and uses a combination of theoretical, practical, role play and formal field exercises to deliver training, we compliment this by talks from well known survivors of hostage situations whose stories and experiences really do paint the most graphic of pictures.

Our course looks at the reasons why people are kidnapped, what are the causes and issues, we look at how to prevent the kidnapping taking place, mitigating the risks once captive and give the client the knowledge and skill to provide them with the best chance of survival.

Our training is specific, and within it we do not focus on the intricacies of resolution strategies the appropriate handling of media or other legal or corporate entities, our focus is centred on giving the individual the knowledge and skills to deal with this most traumatic of occurrences. In short we empower the individual to manage their risks and their safety using techniques and experience from the military and security services and through the research and study of former hostages and what they did that meant they survived when others did not.
